Eighteen of our chefs battled it out in friendly competition to be crowned Colten Care’s star baker.
Chefs from various homes accepted the challenge of creating an original and spectacular cake.
The resulting confections – including a Liverpool FC-themed sponge and even a chocolate and bacon cake – were exhibited at Bourne View in Poole.
On the judging panel were Colten Group co-founder John Colwell, Executive Chairman Ian Hudson, four of our residents – Joyce, Liz, Myrtle and Patricia – and Alan Collier, Head of Hospitality at Brockenhurst College.
After much tasting and deliberation, the winner was announced as Hannah Clark from Court Lodge in Lymington, who created an autumn-inspired pumpkin and pecan cake decorated with hand-crafted pumpkins, mushrooms, leaves and animals.
Hannah said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be named winner amongst so many fabulous cakes from so many talented chefs.”
Resident Patricia said: “It was a wonderful event, so many cakes to choose from – and I particularly enjoyed the delicious chocolate and ginger cake.”
Fergus Davitt, Colten’s Hotel Services Manager, said: “Everyone knows we have some exceptionally talented chefs, but to see all their amazing cakes taking centre stage filled us all with wonder and pride. Hours of thought, planning and preparation went into these cakes, and it certainly showed.”
