Swiss and German apprentices have gained a valuable insight into the UK care industry during placements with us.

Four apprentices spent varying periods here under a partnership with the student guardianship programme, UK Guardians.

Director Helen Herridge said: “Both Switzerland and Germany have excellent apprenticeship programmes and actively encourage their apprentices to study overseas by funding their trips.

“The opportunity to come to Britain, to see how some of the very best care homes operate and to share best practice, is a real benefit to everyone involved.”

During her two weeks at Avon Reach, Dominique Hodel shadowed nursing staff, met new residents and helped to chaperone an outing to the beach, as well as trying yoga.

Helen added: “Dominique was able to refine her already great English and she formed some lovely relationships with staff and residents at the home.

“She found the whole experience amazing and was returning home to her studies having enjoyed a very rewarding placement.”
