Kerry praises ‘amazing’ support
Kerry Mason, the new Home Manager at Brook View in West Moors, says she has found ‘where she wants to be’.
Kerry said: “I have been in the care sector for over 20 years and Colten Care had been on my radar for some time, so I was absolutely thrilled to be offered the role at Brook View in January. It’s the best thing I’ve done. I’ve spent the last few months getting to know the residents and the staff and the ‘Colten Way’.
“Jo Pattison the Operations Manager has been wonderful in supporting me. I had been at an independent care home before and it’s great to have the amazing Colten support network around me.
“My ultimate aim is for us to take the home from Good to Outstanding – and with the staff team we have at Brook View I have no doubt at all that we will.”
Outside work Kerry loves spending time with her mum who lives nearby, her friends and her beloved Border collie Charlie. She has also taken up running and recently signed up to take part in Race for Life.
She said: “I bought a new bike too, so getting out on that over the summer is my next challenge. I need to stay fit for my new job!”
Dementia focus for Francis
Francis Bosompin, the new Home Manager of our dedicated dementia care home Fernhill in Longham, has a BSc in Dementia Studies.
He joined the Outstanding-rated home in early March after being a manager for another leading care provider. “I had read about Colten Care and liked its ethos,” said Francis.
“When I visited the home I thought it had beautiful surroundings and I very much liked the idea of the different ‘households’ within the home. I have also received a very warm welcome from everyone at Fernhill.”
In his spare time, Francis likes to travel to ‘unknown or random places’ and writing articles and contributing to forums on the subject of dementia care, about which he is passionate. He said: “My priority going forward at Fernhill is simply to provide our residents with the best possible care for their individual and often complex dementia needs.”
Hello Elena, old friend
Elena Barna is no stranger to Abbey View. She started at our Sherborne home as Clinical Lead in 2019 before being part of the management teams at both Newstone House in Sturminster Newton and Whitecliffe House in Blandford.
Now, after returning to Abbey View as Home Manager she could not be happier. Elena said: “I love everything about Abbey View – its residents and their families, the staff and the home itself, which is warm, comfortable and welcomes you from the moment you walk in. I want more than anything to improve even further on the wonderful work that has already been achieved here.”
Elena is originally from Romania and worked in the NHS for a time before realising she could ‘do more for people’ in the elderly care sector.
“Having previously been Clinical Lead at Abbey View I feel that has given me a good insight into what makes the home work well and how it could work even better. Of course, here, like in many homes in the wake of Covid our aim is to improve our occupancy while continuing to provide the best care possible.
“It also goes without saying that I aim to get the home the Excellent CQC rating I believe it deserves!” When not in work Elena loves reading, playing with her dog and cat and she gravitates to the beach at every opportunity
