Encouraging team members to do their best is a definite focus for Luke Wiltshire.

A volleyball coach and former top-level player, Luke has joined us as Learning & Development Business Partner. Responsibilities include the delivery of training, mentoring and one-to-one coaching for colleagues at seven of our homes.

“It’s about getting the next generation of managers and leaders up and running,” explains Luke. “That means bringing them forward by helping to develop their talents. My role is to support the homes and Home Managers to ensure their teams are well equipped and knowledgeable and have the skills to deliver outstanding care.”

After a degree and post-graduate qualification in social work, Luke managed a care home for people with learning disabilities. Moving to Learning & Development, he spent 18 months at Isle of Wight ferry operator Red Funnel.

Now back in the care world, Luke says it is a welcome opportunity to refocus and do more people development, adding: “I feel at home back in the environment where I perform best. I knew of Colten Care and had not heard a bad word about them. I was aware their standards were high with seven homes rated Outstanding so I knew they were doing something right and had great values at their heart.”

Outside work, Luke coaches ‘grass roots’ volleyball in the sport’s third tier, the National League. He previously played in the Super League, equivalent to the Premier League in football.
