Keeping calm and carrying on

SYMBOL OF HOPE: Resident John Stillman paints a rainbow flag at Castle View.

Residents have been keeping their spirits up by learning new skills and speaking with friends and families through technologies such as Skype.

Leonard Sweet, who lives at Castle View in Poundbury, has been regularly Skyping his daughter and granddaughter. He said: “It’s amazing, a marvellous way of keeping in touch.”

Those with interest in visual art have been making greeting cards for key workers and joining painting classes. Rainbow flags are among the many artworks produced.

Other residents have been playing the pianos in our lounges, joining in sing-a-longs, writing letters, learning new games and relaxing in garden sunshine.

Residents at Abbey View in Sherborne have been enjoying twice-weekly ‘Communifit’ sessions through the magic of technology after instructor Craig Hardaker recorded a series of workout videos for them to follow.

Whitecliffe House in Blandford has been giving back to the community with special hampers for neighbours living in flats near the home. The gift boxes include activity ideas and items to help during self-isolation.
