Experienced healthcare professional Diane Nicholls is the new Home Manager at our Outstanding-rated Ferndown home, Amberwood House.
The South African did her general nurse training at Johannesburg General Hospital, where her studies included the science of operating theatre nursing.
After qualifying in 1992, Diane first worked in cardiothoracic nursing. She later spent time as a divisional sales manager for a healthcare company and was the commissioning manager for a small private hospital in Pretoria.
In the UK for the past five years, Diane was a theatre nurse at hospitals in Sussex and Bournemouth before making the switch to the care home sector. “I wanted to connect with nursing again and be hands-on,” she says. “Care home nursing was a discipline I didn’t know that much about, but I had heard good things about Colten Care.”
Having taken the reins at Amberwood House, Diane is full of praise about her induction and the support she has received so far. “I had the opportunity to shadow two other Home Managers for three weeks and have had fantastic input from my Operations Manager.
“Everyone has been great and I’ve learned an enormous amount. It has been a good learning curve and I am already making use of my career experience in nurse management.”
Her objectives in the role are straightforward: “I would like to keep the home as Outstanding,” she says, adding: “I see myself being here for the foreseeable future. I really appreciate the welcome from Colten Care and already feel very much ‘part of the family’.”
Diane lives in the north Dorset village of Tarrant Gunville with her partner who is a nurse at Salisbury District Hospital. In their spare time they enjoy gardening and exploring the countryside.
