Keeping a strong community focus is one of the priorities of Abbey View’s new Home Manager, Sarah Hall.
An experienced nursing home manager whose NHS career included specialist cancer care, Sarah says she wants to build on the success of previous incumbent Jo Ellis, who recently moved on after many years heading the Sherborne home.
Sarah says: “I have big shoes to fill as Jo was a really good manager and so well known. I want to embrace everything she has done and take the home forward. That means becoming ingrained in the community, just as she has been, and meeting as many people as possible.”
Kent-born Sarah did her nurse training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, having enjoyed work experience in elderly people’s care during her teens. Her cancer nursing included being a ward sister and working in chemotherapy and research. She moved to Somerset with husband Philip in 2017.
Sarah and Philip made a ‘secret shopper’ visit to Abbey View, asking about potential care for her father-in-law. “Staff were busy but looked happy and had time to smile and talk,” she says. “My first impressions were that if I was to place a relative in a home, it would be Abbey View. Now I’m actually here, I’m absolutely loving it. This is a beautiful home with a great team of staff, lovely residents and a happy, homely feel.”
Outside work, Sarah enjoys trips in her 1979 Volkswagen campervan with the family and Airedale terrier Ellie, now a regular visitor at Abbey View.
