Chichester countdown continues

The countdown to the opening of our first Sussex home, Wellington Grange in Chichester, has gathered pace.

Having completed the main construction phase, we have begun interior design work and launched a staff recruitment campaign.

In a local email survey, we asked for feedback on what ‘Chichester attributes’ the 72-bedroom nursing and residential home should evoke in its design, look and feel.

Those surveyed were mainly female, aged 65 to 74. Responses reflected the richness of Chichester’s history and its continuing role in defining the city today.  People also highlighted its eclectic mix of old and new and its ‘gloriously British’ style.

Ahead of the opening next spring, our interior design team will be using the survey feedback as they consider the new home’s colour schemes, lighting, carpets, furniture, fabrics and other design elements.

Georgina Colwell, Head of Design, explains: “The questionnaire has helped to give us a feel for Chichester and the people who work and live in the area. It complements other initial research and discussions to ascertain how the home will be used and operated, who the residents will be and what their care requirements are. We then meet with our suppliers and fabric reps to see their latest designs and collate samples that will reflect the research we have carried out and appeal to potential residents. We compile a schedule that specifies wall colour, flooring, furniture, tiling, curtains and any other details needed, ensuring all the designs work cohesively together. Working closely with the architects, we draw out lighting and fitted furniture designs, giving rooms a very clear identity and producing a vibrant and stimulating interior. Hundreds of pictures, flowers, lamps and ornaments will complete the ‘dressing’ of the building and transform it into a home.”

When it opens, Wellington Grange will create around 100 jobs, including roles for nurses, carers and ancillary staff. For more information on job opportunities, please visit our online recruitment pages at
